News and Notices

Bellbowrie Hockey Club is a not for profit sporting club which, since its origins in the 1980s, has grown to over 180 members in 2008, fielding 12 teams across junior and senior social, competitive and developmental grades.  BHC has a strong junior base, with 65% of our members under the age of 18 years.  The majority of our members are drawn from the west and southwest suburbs of Brisbane and north eastern suburbs of Ipswich, including Springfield & Forest Lake in the south, Jindalee & Indooroopilly in the north, and Chapel Hill, Kenmore, Brookfield, Bellbowrie, Anstead, Karana Downs and Mount Crosby in the west..  Our members include individuals and families wanting a challenging or social way to keep fit, meet new friends and have fun as part of a friendly sporting community.

Games are played at the Ipswich Hockey Association (IHA) grounds, 65 Briggs Road Ipswich, from 7pm Friday night through to 5pm Sunday night (Juniors play during daytime hours).   Seniors & U15s generally train on Tuesday nights at the IHA complex.  Juniors (U13 and below) generally train on the grass fields at the Bellbowrie Sports and Recreation Club , Sugarwood Street, Bellbowrie.  Our Club colours are GREEN AND GOLD.

Bellbowrie Hockey Club was founded in around 1982 and BHC participated in the Ipswich Hockey Competition as part of Bellbowrie, Rosewood and Bellrose Clubs.  From 1985 Bellbowrie fielded teams in the Brisbane Hockey Association (BHA) and Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association, before rejoining IHA again, as Bellbowrie, in 1995.  Read more about our club history, values and goals.

The replacement of both Field 5 and Field 6 (total works $1.5Mill) has been slightly delayed with the massive rain we’ve had recently, although fixtures are still due to start on 19th March 2010Field 5 will be a dry Poligras H2OZ surface (sort of like the Redcliffe turf - can be played wet or dry) and Field 6 will be a wet Poligras Olympia surface.  IHA will be the first QLD association to have these two types of surfaces installed.
