BHC recognises that attracting quality players and coaches, and encouraging the most from our volunteers and officials, requires a well managed club...a club that supports its officials and volunteers and has a focus for development activities and retaining club members. In December 2008 BHC were successful in obtaining $7,600 of grant funding from Brisbane City Council, through the Community Grants Program 2008/09, enabling us to contract the services of a Sports and Recreation Planning Consultant (Ms Vicky Roofayel from RSC Consulting), to assist with Modernising our Governance Structure and preparing a tailored Strategic Development Plan to guide our activities over the coming years. The Planning Report and supporting documentation can be download by clicking the links below. Thank you to those who attended the workshop on Monday 18th May 2009 and contributed to their club. |

BHC prepares coach resource folders, containing drills ideas and basic coaching information for all junior coaches. In addition to the rep coach talks held by IHA (which anyone’s welcome to attend) BHC supports attendance at development sessions to talk about game strategy, skills and our “back to basics” approach to hockey. For more information please contact a committee member and refer to BHC’s Coach and Manager Induction information on our forms and admin page |

BHC aims to increase the number of competent umpires within IHA by participating in the IHA umpire mentor programs. All players are encouraged to participate in umpiring sessions and rules examinations to improve their knowledge and appreciation of hockey. Contact our Secretary for more information. Juniors participating in the IHA umpire clinics during 2009 received a free umpiring pack including whistle, cards and rule book, thanks to F-H-E raceview store sponsorship. |
|
BHC hopes to facilitate a number of skills development sessions for our juniors in the coming years, consistent with the goals of our strategic planning. IHA and Hockey Queensland also run a number junior skills development programs. If you, or your child, are interested please contact our Club Secretary or a Coordinator for more information. For new starters, our Back to Basics handbook contains useful skills and information on starting out in hockey. |

A brief General Meeting was held Saturday 6th February 2010 where the recommended changes to our Rules of Association were adopted in order to bring BHC’s rules in line with the requirements of the Associations Incorporations Act 1981 and modern club management practices. Our new rules, a summary of the changes to our old rules are available for download below. |

BHC can only run thanks to the valuable efforts of a number of Volunteers. Our Governance Structure (below) shows how all our volunteers fit together via a number of Functional Roles and Committees. The functional committee roles are not required to attend monthly meetings. Instead –they can spend their time acting to develop, promote, communicate within our club etc. For more information on how you can reduce your fees by volunteering check out our Volunteer roles and Discounts section on our Forms, Fees and Discounts page. Position descriptions and task sheets for each functional role will be available for download later in 2010—in the meantime ask a committee member what’s involved. |
